Freedom to Mzia, Freedom to Prisoners of Conscience
Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of independent media outlets "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti," has been on a hunger strike since January 12.
On January 11, 2025, Mzia Amaglobe was arrested for slapping a police officer. According to "Batumelebi," the incident occurred after the head of Batumi Police, Irakli Dgebuadze, repeatedly insulted her.
Amaglobeli has been charged with "assaulting a police officer," which carries a sentence of four to seven years in prison. She has been placed in pretrial detention as a preventive measure. Mzia Amaglobe accuses the police of misconduct.
