The exhibition “Crosses and Stars: Georgian Heritage of Freedom” offers contemporary insights into these protests and places them in a historical context.

 

The exhibition is divided into two parts: one curated by the NGO Gamziri, featuring artifacts from the protests, and the other by the media platform Chai Khana, showcasing powerful photographs from March 2023 and the May 2024 demonstrations. Together, these collections portray Georgia’s enduring fight for democracy.

 

The Heritage of Freedom campaign, launched by Gamziri, depicts Georgia’s strong tradition of democratic resistance. It introduces various Georgian freedom fighters who never relented in their struggle, with heroes born overnight—at a single protest, in a lone war, or while crossing a pass. The exhibition compiles their stories and gathers unique items that symbolize these struggles.

 

Chronicles of May, highlights the large-scale protests that engulfed Tbilisi in May 2024 after the ruling “Georgian Dream” party reintroduced the controversial Foreign Influence Law, commonly referred as the "Russian Law" aiming to restrict civil society and the media. Presented by Chai Khana, this unique photo series allows us to witness one of the largest protest movements in the modern history of independent Georgia.

 

The exhibition is supported by the New Democracy Fund and the Danish Cultural Institute.

 

The opening reception of the exhibition “Crosses and Stars: Georgian Heritage of Freedom” will take place on Thursday, October 10th, at 17:00.

 

Georgian wine and snacks will be served, accompanied by a performance by the Danish DJ HORNS.
