Stories for our grandchildren

While on a road to their next destination in Europe, a young journalist Fatima Karimova reflects on the past years of life in exile together with her husband. Using a mobile phone, she documents sometimes boring, sometimes challenging reality, full of hopes for a better life. For her, moving between three different countries was not a voluntary choice, but an obligation. “One more story for our grandchildren ” is how Fatima prefers to remember the hardships they conquer on their way to their new life.

Director’s note:

When we launched Mikroskop Media and there were just two of us operating it, many people thought that we were an editorial office of at least five people. In fact, behind the curtain, we were running the outlet while navigating our lives as exiles: we went through the challenges of living in a refugee camp, being deported, finding a place to rent, looking for work, etc. Now, for the first time, we are moving to another country voluntarily and more prepared. Again we are going through similar challenges and trying to deal with several difficulties in addition to our work. Through it all, we continue to develop Mikroskop Media with the same passion we had at the beginning.
