Moon without a house

12.01.25

"Moon Without a House" is a poetic exploration of a disappearing home, fading memories, and hope.

In the heart of the mountains in Azerbaijan, where time seems to stand still, resides a grandmother and granddaughter both named Tazaghul. Far from city life, the family spend their lives in a remote hut. As the camera captures their daily routines, a tender and timeless bond comes to the surface. There are greater things hidden in their simple lives than the apparent monotony. The name they carry, Tazaghul, "fresh flowers" in Azerbaijani – a poetic contradiction to the almost deserted landscape that surrounds them. Their existence is a metaphor for resilience, where love blossoms amidst loneliness.

Moon Without a House by Atanur Nabiyeva was premiered in the Opening Scenes Competition at Visions du Réel, International Film Festival Nyon (11–21 April 2024).
