Film director and scriptwriter Amil Amal was born in 1989 in Lachin, Azerbaijan. He earned a BA in directing from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, and MA from VGIK Russian State Institute of Cinematography. He started his filmmaking career in 2010 and worked at the ANS TV, and Bakufilm Studio as well as the United Nations’ Azerbaijani office as a freelance videographer. An award-winning director, he has made several nationally and internationally acclaimed short fictions and documentaries such as “The resident of the oil city” (2011), “Black ribbon” (2015), “Final choice” (2017), and “Tremble” (2021).
Amil is also an amateur photographer. In 2019, he published a book of minimalist and cinematic poems.
