Chai Khana is a visual multimedia platform that has been telling stories from the South Caucasus — Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan — for over a decade.
Our name itself is symbolic. Chai Khana, also known as “a tea house,” has historically been (and still is) a male-dominated space in the South Caucasus, where men usually gather, socialize, and exchange ideas. We, Chai Khana, a platform led by women, reclaim this space for discussion from male-dominated cultures and give it a new meaning. It is a place to gather, connect, and share experiences, where people find common ground. We believe that shared stories have the power to break down barriers and inspire hope for a better future.
In this spirit, Chai Khana has evolved into a media platform that fosters diverse perspectives and storytelling forms. It has provided hundreds of journalists, photographers, and documentary filmmakers with a space to take their first steps, explore new ideas, and amplify unheard voices. Through our work, we respond to current events, reflect on daily life in the region, and engage in cross-border dialogue.
Chai Khana has had an important impact across the region, with its articles, photo stories, and documentaries reaching thousands of readers and viewers. However, it is our documentaries that have truly defined our identity. Recognizing this, we are launching a new initiative: Chai Docs. Through this platform, we will support creative documentary filmmaking in the region, produce short and feature-length documentaries, and, most importantly, capture a comprehensive picture of the South Caucasus.
Alongside this new initiative, Chai Khana continues to cover current events in Georgia through feature articles and photo stories. The South Caucasus perspective that makes Chai Khana a unique platform upholds Chai Docs.
In the light of these changes, one thing remains unchanged — we stand for truth, independence, and coexistence, ideals which underscore our shared humanity.
