Other
January / February / 2021
In the South Caucasus, belonging is everything. The warm relations that define all three cultures are closely woven into the fabric of society—and for those who fall out of the bounds of those relations, life as the Other can be difficult. How is this trend affecting communities in the South Caucasus? How does society isolate those who have lost their homes, changed their identities, are in a different social group, a different age, a different gender, are bullied, or suffer from a disease? Who is the “other” in your community? What defines who belongs and who does not? Who brings down or builds the bridges to reach out to the “Other”? In this edition, Chai Khana will explore how it feels to be the “other.”
