Toghrul Abbasov
Toghrul Abbasov holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from METU and a master's degree in sociology from Mimar Sinan University of Fine Arts, with a thesis titled "Modernization and Melodramatic Imagination in Soviet Azerbaijani Cinema." Abbasov collaborates with various media outlets such as Chai Khana Media, "Caucasus Edition" magazine, and "Fokus" analytical film magazine. His research interests include Soviet modernization, national identities, concepts of national cinema, and visual sociology.
He is the co-director of "The Tenacity of the Ant" (2010) and director of "Since the Dust Settled" (2020) documentary films.
Currently, Abbasov is pursuing a PhD at the Faculty of Historical Sociology at Charles University, where he is conducting research titled "National Imaginations in the Cinema of the Soviet Caucasus."
