Anna Dziapshipa wins Jury Prize at Vision Du Reel Film Festival
Anna Dziapshipa, a long-term contributor and filmmaker for Chai Khana, has been awarded the Jury Prize for Best Medium Length Film at the prestigious Visions du Réel film festival for her film "Self-Portrait Along the Borderline".
The jury was impressed with how the portrayal of personal traumatic memories intertwined with a discourse on identity that weaved into broader socio-historical conflicts of the recent past of her native country, and how the director conducts delicate research combining archival and documentary footage.
“The film uses strong metaphors in order to create an outstanding film language, encompassing a punctual narrative and a precise soundscape, which is enriched by the director’s own voice”, Jury states.
In the film “Self-Portrait Along the Borderline”, Anna Dziapshipa skilfully weaves together unique archives and fragments to offer a personal and political biography of Georgia-Abkhazia relations. This vibrant exploration foregrounds a divided identity caught between the margins.
