The EU Prize for Journalism selected two of Chai Khana stories as finalists in the category of "Best documentary photo reflecting EU values.”

Our contributor Khatia Nikabadze and her photo story "Georgian Azerbaijanis and the Spring Jubilee" is one of the finalists. The story follows a 500-year old tradition which marks the new year for Muslims, and becomes a celebration that transcends religion, culture, and nationality.

Chai Khana fellow Tornike Mermanishvili is the second finalist with his story "In the land of plastic trees'' captures Didi Lilo settlement where the term "garbage" has lost all figurative meaning. Waste floats in from the landfill, turning everything around it into a trash dump, invading people's bodies, infiltrating their throats and lungs, and permeating the air in almost every house.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on February 2.
