I knew nothing about this service, so I started to search for information on the internet. I tried to find a Tamada, who could be called for any occasion. I met Zviad Omanidze, a person, who became the main hero of my story.
Tamada is a worn-out term in Georgia, which is why every Georgian, and even perhaps foreigners have a stereotypical association with it. I prepared for a shooting with this stereotype and some irony.
I met Zviad - he was slightly older than my father, with a moustache and kind smile, who looked at me and my camera with suspicion. This happens quite often, when the respondent is suspicious at first, but later they open up and finally we get to the result, which we both want. Mr. Zviad went from suspicious directly to friendship. Sometimes, he would stop me and tell me poems, which he would remember and think, that I should teach it to my 3-year-old.
Zviad Omiadze passed away after few days of the shoot. I was conflicted both professionally and personally, whether to edit the material of a person, who is no longer alive. The words of Mr. Zviad’s daughter decided my position: She wrote to me, that she wanted to see the interview with her father, because everything connected to him became more precious for the family after his death.
I haven’t changed anything in the video. Everything is the same, as it would be, if Mr. Zviad was alive. I think this is more fair.
